MUNISING, Mich. (AP) - Officials say a gunshot wound caused the death of a man following a police chase, crash and shooting in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

WLUC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1qK70N9 ) authorities say 47-year-old Timothy Mitchell was shot by a Munising police officer, who has been placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation takes place. Monday’s crash and shooting followed a roughly 10-minute pursuit.

Police say Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene in Alger County. Police earlier weren’t sure whether the shooting or crash caused his death.

An altercation was reported in a nearby community and police in Munising had spotted the vehicle in the case, leading to the chase. State police are investigating.
