SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Republican Monica Wehby says she raised $846,000 for her U.S. Senate campaign during the latest fundraising period.

The report brings her total second-quarter fundraising haul to $955,000 - slightly more than half of what Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley raised in the same period.

A summary of Wehby’s finances says she had just under $650,000 in the bank at the end of June and $120,000 in debt. She’s at a significant disadvantage against Merkley’s $3.5 million bank account.

Still, Wehby’s campaign said Thursday the report shows she is well positioned to take on Merkley.

Wehby spent $550,000 over the last two months.
