HBO host Bill Maher sparked yet another round of national discussion with a Twitter post that likened Hamas to a “crazy woman” who simply needed a good face slap to bring back the calm.
His post, ostensibly in defense of Israel’s return-fire and advance of military ground troops into the Gaza Strip: “Dealing w/ Hamas is like dealing w/ a crazy woman who’s trying to kill u - u can only hold her wrists so long before you have to slap her.”
Predictably perhaps, Twitter posters reacted with harsh criticism.
One wrote: “@billmaher You should never advocate hitting a woman. What kind of an [expletive] are you?”
Another: “So @billmaher advocates violence against women.”
Another: “@billmaher seriously what the actual [expletive] is the matter with you.”
Yet another: “@billmaher so you have a lot of experiences with women trying to kill you. That says something about you, you idiot.”
And another simply said: “@billmaher. Bill. no.”
Mr. Maher, the host of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” has rocked national headlines lately with various controversial statements — including telling New Yorkers that they ought to give up the fantasies about horse-drawn carriages, telling Hillary Clinton she ought to “just go away,” and labeling liberals as “useless Obama hacks.”
