PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Brown University is the subject of a sexual violence investigation by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights.

The department announced Wednesday that the investigation was opened July 10. Brown is now one of 68 postsecondary institutions where Title IX sexual violence investigations are pending.

Brown spokeswoman Marisa Quinn said the Ivy League university received notice of the investigation on Friday.

She says the university will cooperate fully.

The Department of Education did not release details of the case, and Quinn said it is Brown’s policy not to discuss individual cases or details of ongoing reviews.

Quinn says Brown continues to work to ensure it is adhering to best practices under Title IX, and is establishing a task force to recommend improvements to its procedures.
