NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a city garbage truck struck and killed a 91-year-old great-great-grandmother on Staten Island.

They say Maria Valentino was hit around 7:30 a.m. Friday while crossing Clove Road in the West Brighton neighborhood.

Police say the garbage truck was turning left onto the street from Delafield Avenue when it hit Valentino.

Paramedics pronounced her dead on scene. The NYPD says its Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.

WABC-TV reported Valentino had 3 children, 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Neighbors told the Staten Island Advance she lived with family near where the crash happened.

They say she walked to a nearby deli every morning to get coffee and a newspaper.
