HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A man is dead after police say he was struck with a “sharp object” on Long Island.

Hempstead police say the man was attacked around 5:30 p.m. Friday on Albemarle Avenue.

They say Nassau County’s homicide unit is investigating and has a person in custody.

A Nassau police spokeswoman says a detective is on the case but that they couldn’t immediately provide additional details.
