HARVEY, La. (AP) - Pedro Alberto Monterroso-Navas, the Guatemalan native accused of murdering his girlfriend in the Metairie apartment they shared, is back in Louisiana.

Authorities returned Monterroso-Navas to Jefferson Parish Friday after extradition from Harris County, Texas.

Handcuffed, clad in a light blue coverall and shackled at the ankles, the 43-year-old shuffled through a light rain, bending over at the waist to avoid the cameras waiting for him at the sheriff’s office investigations bureau in Harvey. NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/1jYZD67 ) he said nothing as detectives escorted him inside.

Sheriff’s spokesman Col. John Fortunato says Monterroso-Navas will be booked with second-degree murder in the death of 24-year-old Heidi Monroy. Authorities found Monroy’s body in the bathtub of the couple’s apartment Sunday. Monterroso-Navas has been held in Texas since his arrest Monday.
