PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) - An Alabama man is facing a possible death sentence after being convicted of torturing an elderly Florida Panhandle man to death.

A Bay County jury found 29-year-old Kevin Jeffries guilty Thursday of first-degree murder, armed robbery and armed burglary. The same panel will reconvene to recommend life in prison or the death penalty. A judge will make the final decision.

Authorities say Jeffries, his fiancee 29-year-old Nicole Griffin and his cousin 28-year-old David Ian Challender broke into 90-year-old Wallace Scott’s Lynn Haven home in April 2013. Prosecutors say Jeffries and Challender tortured Scott to get his ATM card pin before killing him.

The News Herald (https://goo.gl/NIwCZt ) reports that Griffin previously received 20 years for second-degree murder as part of a plea deal in exchange for her testimony against Jeffries and Challender.

Challender’s trial is scheduled for September.
