FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Deputies in Cumberland County have arrested a Fayetteville man after investigators say he set fire to his girlfriend’s bed while she was lying in it.

A statement from the sheriff’s office says 26-year-old Michael Dwan Hall Jr. faces several charges, including attempted first-degree murder and first-degree arson.

Investigators say Hall used a lighter to try to set fire to the bedroom carpet. When that failed, he used the lighter to set the bed on fire Wednesday. Authorities say the couple’s two young children as well as two adults were in the home at the time, but no one was hurt.

Hall surrendered to deputies on Friday. He’s in jail under a $600,000 bond with a court appearance scheduled for Monday. Jail records didn’t indicate whether Hall has an attorney.
