NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - Authorities say a 26-year-old man suspected of beating his wife in North Platte has died after shooting himself.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that Christopher Tidball died Thursday and that an autopsy has been ordered. He’d been taken to a local hospital and transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

The sheriff’s office says the shooting occurred late Tuesday night at the Patriot Mobile Home Park. An injured woman there said her husband had kicked her, beaten her with a lamp and then fled.

Officers later were tipped that the man had returned to the home. As officers converged on the front of the home, they heard a gunshot from inside. They say they soon found Tidball, who’d shot himself.
