PINE RIDGE, S.D. (AP) - The Oglala Sioux Tribal Council has voted to not impeach President Bryan Brewer after he was suspended last month over allegations that he acted without the council’s approval on two occasions and mishandled a $5,000 check.

KOTA-TV reports that council members voted against removing Brewer altogether and against suspending him for 30 days without pay Thursday.

The council voted 10-5 in June to temporarily suspend Brewer.

The complaints against Brewer alleged that he signed over the tribe’s power of attorney in order to approve bonds and that he approved health benefits for the tribe’s former casino manager without the council’s consent. He was also accused of mishandling a $5,000 donation a business made to the tribe.

Brewer says the allegations were baseless and his accusers were just playing politics.
