ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - The Utah Board of Regents has named Richard Williams, a university official in Indiana, as the new president of southern Utah’s Dixie State University.

Williams becomes the 18th president of the school, succeeding Stephen Nadauld, who is retiring after six years as president.

Williams has served as an Indiana State University provost and vice president since 2013, and before that was dean of the university’s nursing, health and human services college.

He’s also a former faculty member at the University of Northern Iowa.

The Utah regents announced the selection Thursday after a search committee narrowed a list of 40 candidates to three finalists last week.

Williams says in a statement that he’s honored to take the role and eager to follow the path set by Nadauld.
