WATERLOO, Ill. (AP) - Police in Monroe County’s Waterloo say a 28-year-old man has been stabbed to death in what is the southwestern Illinois city’s first homicide in 11 years.

Waterloo Police Chief Jim Trantham says Eric Boyer was pronounced dead Thursday night at a hospital after the stabbing during an alleged domestic dispute at a home.

Authorities arrested 20-year-old Christopher Russell of Valmeyer. He’s charged at least for now with aggravated battery, though Trantham says the investigation continues.

Online court records don’t show whether Russell has an attorney.

A woman at the home was treated for minor cuts, and two children were taken from there by relatives.

The killing is the Waterloo’s first homicide since a 21-year-old pregnant woman, Twila Wiley, was found shot to death in a park in August 2003.
