HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - A central Pennsylvania woman has pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in the shooting death of her ex-husband almost two years ago, which she initially contended was self-defense.

PennLive.com (https://bit.ly/1piDsFz ) reports that 49-year-old Gina Anne Murphy of Williamstown entered the plea Thursday in Dauphin County Court.

State police alleged that she shot 52-year-old Daniel Murphy in August 2012 to obtain sole ownership of the home they shared and then placed a steak knife beside his body.

First Assistant District Attorney Fran Chardo said Murphy has no sentencing deal in the open plea to charges of 3rd-degree murder, evidence-tampering and making false statements. He said the victim’s family was consulted before the decision to accept the plea.

Defense attorney Jerry Russo declined comment pending sentencing scheduled for January.
