LEESBURG, Ala. (AP) - Alabama authorities are investigating after a dead body was found in Weiss Lake near Leesburg.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1n3TLHq ) fishermen spotted the body floating in the water Friday afternoon in an area behind a church.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office says the body is female but did not specify whether it appears to be a woman or a girl.

Authorities pulled the body from the water and sent it to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an autopsy and to determine the person’s identity.

No cause of death has been determined. The Leesburg Police Department is leading the investigation with assistance from the sheriff’s office.
