LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a citizen of the Czech Republic has pleaded guilty to impeding a U.S. Border Patrol agent in New Mexico.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Mexico says 54-year-old Andrej Grecik entered his plea Friday afternoon in federal court in Las Cruces.

Grecik, who has legal permanent resident status in the U.S. and resides in San Diego, California, was arrested Jan. 22.

According to a criminal complaint, the agent tried to question Grecik at a checkpoint on Highway 70, west of Alamogordo. Grecik allegedly tried to push the agent off the step of his semi-truck and then crushed the agent’s fingers in the vehicle door.

The complaint also alleges Grecik struck the agent in the chest with his elbow.

Grecik faces a maximum prison sentence of one year.
