MILAN (AP) - Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzarri has extended his contract with the Serie A club until 2016.

The 52-year-old Mazzarri led Inter to a fifth-place finish last season after signing from Napoli in the summer.

On Wednesday, Mazzarri said: “I hope to be able to repay the faith shown in me with my work on the pitch. I’ll do everything in my power to get Inter back where the club belongs in Italy and Europe.”

Inter president Erick Thohir said the club regarded Mazzarri as “one of the cornerstones of our project. I am certain that now he can work with the necessary peace and can give us great satisfaction.”
