BELOIT, Wis. (AP) - Beloit police say a woman found lying in a road was apparently shot and killed.

Police responded Sunday about 6:30 a.m. to a report of a person down on the road. They found a 44-year-old Beloit woman with an apparent gunshot wound.

She was taken to a hospital, where she was declared dead.

The woman has been identified, but police didn’t immediately release her name pending notification of relatives.

Police Capt. Dan Risse says the shooting didn’t appear to be random.
