BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi’s corrections commissioner says former Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd has not violated terms of his house arrest.

Commissioner Christopher Epps says the department has told Byrd to end any contact with sheriff’s office employees that might be seen as threatening.

Sheriff Charles Britt had asked Epps whether Byrd had violated terms of his sentence by asking sheriff’s office employees which candidate for sheriff they plan to support. He says Byrd became abusive during a call to one officer.

The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1n6sNPH ) reports that Epps responded Saturday in a press release.

Byrd is serving sentences on a state charge of intimidating a witness and a federal charge of witness tampering.
