SCARSDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 63-year-old Massachusetts woman was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol when she struck a Westchester County police officer on the Hutchinson River Parkway as he aided a motorist.

The officer remained hospitalized Sunday in stable condition at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Westchester County said in a release Sunday that drug and alcohol tests were negative. No charges were filed and an investigation continues.

Police say the officer and his patrol car were struck when the officer was outside his vehicle about 9:30 p.m. Saturday as he assisted a motorist near Mamaroneck Road in Scarsdale. He had closed a lane for a tow truck that had arrived at the scene.

County Executive Robert Astorino said the officer’s injuries, though serious, were not life-threatening.
