CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A former Shinnston police officer has been sentenced on drug charges.

Media outlets report that a Harrison County Circuit Court judge sentenced Charles Roscoe Henning III on Monday to four to 16 years in prison.

The 40-year-old Salem resident pleaded guilty in June to four counts of obtaining a controlled substance by misrepresentation by fraud, forgery, deception or subterfuge.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department has said Henning confiscated hydrocodone from several people while working as a Shinnston officer. He then removed pills before putting the bottles in the Shinnston Police Department’s evidence locker.

Henning was arrested in March 2013. He will get credit for time served in custody.
