LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) - The La Grande City Council voted to raise water rates in the Eastern Oregon community.

The Observer newspaper reports (https://is.gd/1bZ6Ow ) that La Grande residents will pay $22 per month for their water - a $6 increase.

City Water Superintendent Lee Mannor says the increase will give the city an extra $514,000 a year to be used for operations, maintenance and capital improvement projects.

Low-income residents are eligible for a 20 percent discount.
