PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to traveling to Rhode Island to engage in sex with a 13-year-old girl, in a case that prompted an Amber Alert.

Twenty-eight-year-old Daniel Berger of Haskell, New Jersey, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Providence on Friday.

He acknowledged that he befriended the girl online and travelled to her home in Portsmouth last July, before driving her to New Jersey. Early the following day, the girl was found in Berger’s home.

As part of a plea deal, the government has agreed to recommend a sentence of seven years, three months in prison.

His lawyer said soon after the arrest that there were serious mental health issues in the case.

Berger is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 9.
