GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - The N.C. Department of Transportation is hoping to complete a resurfacing project before students return to Elon University for the fall semester.

Nighttime paving work on a 1.2 mile section of Williamson Avenue starts on Monday. It’s scheduled for between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night along the construction route.

One of two lanes will be closed nightly, while both lanes will be open to traffic during the day.

The project is scheduled to end on Aug. 1.

Williamson Avenue serves as a connector route for Elon University. The department says in order to reduce the impact to residents and businesses along the route, NCDOT worked with the town and school leaders to determine the best construction schedule ahead of freshman move-in on Aug. 22.
