KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (AP) - N.C. Department of Transportation work crews are gearing up for widening a two-lane stretch of U.S. 421/Interstate 40 Business in Kernersville.

Crews on Monday will close down the right outside lane of US 421/I-40 Business westbound near Exit 15 at Macy Grove Road. Construction is slated to be complete on Monday, Aug. 4, weather permitting.

The construction is designed to widen and extend Macy Grove Road from Industrial Drive to Mountain Street in Kernersville, including a new interchange at US 421/I-40 Business. The project will increase the traffic capacity along the roadway, which will ease backups and improve flow of critical hospital emergency traffic that uses the highway.

Delays are expected.
