DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Des Moines public schools employee responsible for supervising children on a school bus has been denied unemployment benefits and was fired for swatting a child on the top of the head.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1wRckjA ) Ahmed Karshe was fired April 2.

He’s denied assaulting or threatening students. His job was to help supervise children riding the bus, some of whom have disabilities. A bus surveillance video posted on the newspaper’s website shows Karshe swatting a child. On March 28 a parent complained and school officials launched an investigation.

His firing became public at a recent hearing concerning his request for unemployment benefits. Karshe was denied benefits by a judge who found he’d committed workplace misconduct.

A telephone listed in his name has been disconnected.
