SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A San Antonio high school football player has drowned in South Texas while swimming with his family.

A Medina County Sheriff’s Office spokesman says Joshua Biggles was found dead Sunday afternoon. He says Biggles was found in about 15 feet of water at the Paradise Canyon Recreation Park. The park is just south of Medina Lake and about 30 miles west of San Antonio.

The spokesman says it’s unclear what caused the drowning. He says it appears to be an accident.

The rising junior played linebacker at Sandra Day O’Connor High School.

Students and friends have set up an online fund to help pay for his funeral. They also are planning a candlelight vigil at the high school.
