SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The state Division of Natural Resources says permit applications are now available for the limited bear firearms season this fall in West Virginia.

A bear season without dogs will occur Nov. 24 through Dec. 6 on public and private land in 17 counties by permit only. The hunt is concurrent with the traditional firearms season for deer.

Residents aren’t required to apply for a permit or buy a hunting stamp to hunt bears on their own land.

Applications are available at www.wvdnr.gov . Printed applications will be available late this month at hunting license agents, DNR district offices, the Elkins Operations Center and the DNR main office in South Charleston.

Completed applications must be mailed to the DNR by Aug. 18.
