BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - The portion of Biloxi beach from Travia Avenue to Iberville Drive opened to the public again after a sewage spill July 15.

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality says lightning struck a lift station during a storm and sewage spilled into the Sound until an emergency bypass was put into effect.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1sJsFcF) samples taken by the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory show bacteria have returned to acceptable levels.
