RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The ongoing General Assembly session is putting a crimp into House Speaker Thom Tillis’ campaign for the U.S. Senate, but he’s still mingling with donors backing his campaign.

The Charlotte Observer (https://bit.ly/Ung3Ja) reports that Tillis will be at a Washington, D.C., restaurant on Tuesday at a fundraiser with U.S. Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina. The legislative leader will be back in the nation’s capital on Wednesday at an fundraising event with the state’s Republican congressional delegation.

Tillis’ campaign reported raising more than $1.6 million in the three months ending June 30. That’s his best quarter so far, but less than half of what Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan raised during the same period.

Some members of the General Assembly are hoping to end their annual lawmaking session this week.
