BROOINGS, S.D. (AP) - Krista Wood is the new softball coach at South Dakota State University.

Wood joins the Jackrabbits after eight years at Wayne State, Nebraska, where she posted an overall record of 270-154. She took over an NCAA Division II program that won 10 games in 2006 and built a team that set a school record with 43 victories and made the D-II Super Regional in 2010.

A native of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Wood was a standout pitcher at Nebraska-Omaha from 1999 to 2003. She helped the Mavericks to the NCAA Division II national championship in 2001.

The Jackrabbits were 11-36 last season with a 2-16 record in the Summit League.
