SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - A lightning bolt has destroyed a large tree at the Saratoga Race Course

New York Racing Association spokesman John Durso Jr. told the Albany Times Union (https://bit.ly/1rCxiov ) that no one was injured in the lighting strike, which happened about 20 minutes after the last race of the day on Wednesday.

He says the bolt struck the 100-foot tree in the back end of the backyard of the race course. Debris from the shattered tree also destroyed a nearby hot dog stand as well as picnic tables.

Racing will go on as scheduled on Thursday.

A line of thunderstorms swept through the region on Wednesday, damaging trees and power lines.
