STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A man who hit and killed a German motorcyclist with an SUV in Steamboat Springs is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 13.

The Steamboat Pilot & Today reports (https://bit.ly/1pIbZgy ) Scott Penfold’s sentencing was continued Wednesday because of a medical issue. He was convicted of careless driving resulting in death for the July 2, 2013, crash that killed 60-year-old Fels Bernhard.

The defense argued Penfold might have blacked out, which caused him to drift into oncoming traffic.

He could be sentenced to up to a year in jail and fined up to $1,000.
