BENSENVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a 4-year-old boy has died in a house fire in the northwest Chicago suburb of Bensenville.

The DuPage County Coroner’s office confirmed the boy died Wednesday afternoon and said an autopsy is planned on Thursday. The office identified the boy as 4-year-old Martin Pletz.

Berkeley Fire Department Chief David Traiforos says firefighters “made a frantic effort” to search for the child, but when they found him the boy was dead.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
