DETROIT (AP) - Family members left the courtroom when prosecutors revealed photos of the body of a 19-year-old woman who was shot on a Dearborn Heights porch.

On the second day of trial Thursday, photos of Renisha McBride and the home where she was killed were introduced as evidence. Her mother and other relatives in court were uncomfortable.

Theodore Wafer is charged with second-degree murder, although he insists he shot McBride in self-defense.

Earlier, jurors heard Wafer’s recorded remarks to police when officers arrived at his home last Nov. 2. He suggested the shooting was an accident and told police that he didn’t know his shotgun was loaded.

Wafer said someone was trying to get into his home around 4:30 a.m.
