LAUREL, Miss. (AP) - A Jones County grand jury has indicted a Laurel man for capital murder in the death of an 85-year-old woman at a trailer park where they both lived.

The Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1nkdweO) the indictment of William E. Dean, 48, was one of two issued by the grand jury this past week in local slayings.

Authorities said the body of 85-year-old Nora L. Peters was found in her home in April at the Twin Pines Trailer Park. Authorities said Peters worked for the trailer park, collecting rent from other tenants.

Authorities said the woman was stabbed and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said investigators believe Peters woke up and surprised a person who had broken into the house and was killed.

In the second case, the grand jury indicted Michael Dixon, 30, of Laurel, on a charge of murder in the Aug. 31, 2013, hit and run death of Juan Nelson.

Authorities said Dixon, who fled the area, was arrested on Sept. 6, 2013, at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, bus station.

Police say Nelson’s body was found lying in a Laurel intersection. They said an autopsy showed Nelson had extensive internal injuries and other injuries “that indicate that he was run over by a vehicle.”
