AKRON, Iowa (AP) - A detention hearing has been scheduled Aug. 4 for a 44-year-old man held as a material witness in the deaths of an elderly couple.

The man has been held since he was taken into custody in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on July 10, the day after the bodies of 80-year-old Esther Neunaber and 83-year-old Donald Neunaber were found in their rural Akron home. Authorities say Esther Neunaber was a homicide victim but that more tests are needed to determine the cause and manner of Donald Neunaber’s death.

Plymouth County Chief Deputy Craig Bartolozzi told the Sioux City Journal (https://bit.ly/1uiccxA ) the man held in Plymouth County Jail in Le Mars is not a suspect. The man has not been charged with a crime.
