CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. (AP) - The Pemiscot County Jail will house prisoners from a neighboring southeast Missouri county, at least for the next six months.

The Sikeston Standard Democrat (https://bit.ly/1kdMiHn ) reports that the New Madrid County Commission has agreed to pay Pemiscot County $30 per prisoner per day.

The New Madrid County Commission voted earlier this month to move inmates out of its jail, saying it was too costly to make improvements required by the county’s insurer. Inmates since then have been housed in another nearby county, Scott County.
