PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence Mayor Angel Tavares has outlined his plans for using $5.2 million in federal community development grants this fiscal year.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1lyruFa ) the grants would go to fund everything from an upgrade of the air conditioning system at Smith Hill Library to a water park and playground at Joslin Park.

Grants also would go to number of community service agencies that provide services to low income or homeless residents and educational programs.

The mayor’s proposal has been submitted to the City Council’s Committee on Urban Redevelopment, Renewal and Planning and eventually will go to the full City Council for approval.
