OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The president and publisher of The Journal Record is leaving the newspaper to become president and CEO of The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools.

The Journal Record reported (https://bit.ly/1rPKbsU ) Thursday that Mary Mélon will leave Aug. 30 after working there for nearly two decades. Mélon said she has decided that it’s time for her to focus on improving and supporting Oklahoma City schools.

Mélon first worked at The Journal Record in advertising starting in 1993 and - after a brief move into radio - returned to The Journal Record in 1995 as advertising director and became vice president and publisher in 2001.

She was named president of The Journal Record Publishing Company in 2006 and was promoted to group publisher with responsibility for operations in multiple markets in 2011.
