COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The University of South Carolina men’s basketball team wants kids to take an interest in reading.

Spokesman Jeff Stensland says USC students who participate in the “Cocky’s Reading Express” literacy initiative will join the team and Cocky at the Richland County Library on Assembly Street on Thursday.

The team and school mascot Cocky are attending.

Cocky’s Reading Express is a collaboration of the university’s student government and the USC School of Library and Information Science.

Students travel the state with Cocky visiting elementary schools. While the students read to the children, Cocky helps them understand the importance of life-long reading.
