Walgreens to shut down Flagstaff distribution center, lay off more than 300 workers

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Drugstore chain Walgreens is laying off 345 employees at its distribution center in Flagstaff.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1yHLvkO) that workers were notified in person Friday that the company planned to shut down the facility by April 2015.

Walgreens spokesman Phil Caruso said in an email that employees will be let go within the next nine months.

Caruso says each person will be offered a severance package.

Walgreens officials say the company has more space than it needs as it expands to more state-of-the-art facilities in other locations in the western U.S.

According to Caruso, the other facilities have twice the capacity of the Flagstaff location.
