COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A history professor from the U.S. Military Academy is slated to discuss his book about Vietnam and the late Gen. William Westmoreland.

Army Col. Gregory Daddis is also signing copies of his book “Westmoreland’s War: Reassessing American Strategy in Vietnam.” The event takes place Thursday at the Hollings Library on the University of South Carolina campus. It is free and open to the public.

Westmoreland passed away in 2005 at age 91 while living in Charleston. He commanded U.S. military operations in the Vietnam War during its peak from 1964 to 1968.

Daddis made use of some of the wide collection of Westmoreland’s papers that are housed at USC libraries.
