OAK ISLAND, N.C. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued 10 people after their pontoon boat began taking on water southeast of Bald Head Island.

A statement from the Coast Guard says the boaters were en route to Bald Head Island on Thursday when waves in the entrance to the Cape Fear River swamped their boat and one boater fell overboard.

A good Samaritan notified the Coast Guard, and two Oak Island Coast Guard boat crews training in the area reached the pontoon boat within minutes.

According to the Coast Guard, one boater was rescued from the water and the others were transferred from the pontoon boat onto a Coast Guard vessel. The statement said all survivors were reported to be in good health.
