MURRIETA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a Southern California man they say shot to death his wife - a rookie police officer - stashed her body in a storage locker and set fire to their home.

Freddy Perez-Rodas was arrested Wednesday in Murrieta on suspicion of murder, arson and child endangerment. He remains jailed Thursday and it’s unclear whether he has an attorney.

The 27-year-old was arrested after reporting the fire and police say he led them to his wife’s body in a Moreno Valley storage locker.

Authorities believe he shot 25-year-old Laura Perez in the chest during a dispute at their Murrieta home. She graduated from the police academy in December, according to the Escondido Police Officer’s Association.

The couple’s 4-year-old daughter wasn’t hurt and is staying with other family members.
