PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Unemployed Rhode Islanders will soon be obligated to post their resumes to an online job board or lose their unemployment benefits.

The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training has for years urged jobless residents to post their resumes to employRI.org.

Department Director Charles Fogarty tells the Providence Journal (https://bit.ly/1rDEMGf ) starting Sept. 1, people filing new unemployment claims will have six weeks to get their resumes online or the department will shut off their benefits until they do so.

As of Wednesday, 8,370 people had active resumes on the site, and 4,571 employers had registered.

But Rhode Island has the highest unemployment rate in the nation at 7.9 percent with 44,200 people counted as unemployed in June.

Job-seeking Coventry resident Denise Brindamour says the rule is a good idea.
