LOS ANGELES (AP) - Transportation officials are warning that a road closure near Los Angeles International Airport will cause heavy traffic and delays this weekend.

Starting Friday night, a bridge demolition project will shut down the intersection of Century and Aviation boulevards.

Crews will dismantle the old railway bridge over Century Boulevard to clear the area for a new metro station along the planned Crenshaw light rail line.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority say the closure will last until 6 a.m. Monday.

Motorists heading to and from the airport can still use Sepulveda Boulevard or a three-mile detour route, but officials advise budgeting extra time for traffic.

Like Jamzilla and Carmageddon before it, transit construction that could cause disrupt traffic earns a nickname. This project has been dubbed Century Crunch.
