CHICAGO (AP) - A Cook County judge has ordered an 18-year-old charged in the shooting death of an 11-year-old held without bond.

Tevin Lee faces murder, felony murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm in the death of Shamiya Adams. She was making s’mores at a friend’s house in Chicago’s West Garfield Park neighborhood on July 18 when she was struck by a bullet. She died early the next morning.

Lee appeared in bond court on Friday. Cook County Judge Laura Sullivan also set another court appearance for Aug. 12.

Chicago authorities have said the shooting likely stemmed from a fight between two teenagers who were affiliated with rival gangs.

Lee’s family members disputed those accounts and told reporters Friday that volunteered with an anti-violence program and didn’t have a gun.
