ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (AP) - A man who escaped from a Richmond County sheriff’s deputy earlier this month has been captured.

The Richmond County Daily Journal reported (https://bit.ly/1jYZRtK) that 40-year-old John Adam Rillo of Ellerbe was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Thursday on methamphetamine charges.

Richmond deputies say Rillo was found in the edge of a pond just inside Montgomery County.

Authorities say Rillo escaped July 11 while he was being arrested on a four-count federal indictment in a December meth lab seizure.

Deputies from Richmond, Montgomery and Moore counties worked with a North Carolina Division of Adult Correction K-9 unit, the Highway Patrol and police from Candor and Troy during the search.

It was not clear if Rillo has an attorney.
