CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Flash flood and tornado watches have been issued for most of West Virginia.

The National Weather Service says the flash flood watch runs through early Monday in at least 34 of the state’s 55 counties. The weather service also issued a tornado watch for 29 counties through Sunday night.

Several rounds of thunderstorms are possible and could send small streams over their banks and cause low lying areas to fill with water quickly.

The weather service says 2 to 3 inches of rain are possible in a short period during some of the storms.

The watch area excludes both panhandles, southeastern sections of the state and parts of northern West Virginia.

No major flooding problems were reported as of midday Sunday.
